Letter From the Executive
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I moved to the Atlanta area in 1992. I grew up in a family where great importance was placed on healthy living and strong family values. As a youth, I participated in tennis, football and marathon running. Sunday dinners with family were also a fundamental part of growing up. To this day, I remain passionate about physical fitness and believe that great memories are created around the dinner table.
My first experiences with diverse tastes and worldly cultures were during the seven years I served in the United States Navy. Tours through Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Egypt and Israel left an indelible imprint on my life. The experiences with the people, culture and customs of these places has remained fresh in my mind and to this day, permeates in the way I carry myself in business and in life.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1992, I moved seamlessly into working with food, a business of culture. Food, wine, and diverse cultures have always been a passion of mine and it made sense to pursue a career in restaurant management. During my 18 years in the field, I worked in a variety of establishments from bistro-style restaurants to major corporate restaurants to high-profile Atlanta steakhouses. In addition to restaurant manager, I also ran a personal chef company which serviced young professionals, celebrities, and professional athletes in the metro Atlanta area.
My culinary experiences, both abroad and at home have allowed me to realize the concept of combining fresh, seasonal ingredients to create dishes in which each element expresses its own flavor through a combination of herbs and clean textures. My goal with Buckhead Epicurean is to primarily utilize seasonal ingredients procured from local farmers to ensure they are the epitome of fresh. Using fresh, local ingredients insures that we are able to provide a culinary experience in an honest, satisfying and sustainable way. The earth provides its gifts seasonally, so it makes sense to receive them accordingly.
Although appreciative of traditional wine customs, I consider myself to be inventive when it comes to food and wine pairing. At Buckhead Epicurean, we pride ourselves on exploring the endless possible combinations of food and wine. With such a variety of wines in the marketplace, our goal is to find boutique wineries around the world and expertly match their wines with our food for a truly memorable and cultural experience.
Thank you for the taking the first steps towards building a unique relationship with us and for making Buckhead Epicurean an integral part of your culinary needs.
Cheers,
Marven Sparks
